How many of you can afford to buy a house, but chose to rent?
This is probably very rare, but there's gotta be a few out there.
If you are an American, who always made enough to choose either rent or owning and paying mortgage, and chose to rent. How much did you save after 10 years? Or 20 years?
I am not convinced that buying a home will always save money, I hope there's somebody here who can prove otherwise. If a person chose to rent for 10-20 years, could he have saved $100-200k compared to his home owning mortgage paying counterpart?
By the way, when I say save, I mean SAVE INTO A BANK ACCOUNT, I don't care how much less you spent on your home, if you're spending it somewhere else anyway, that doesn't count at all. If you made other better investments, good, but if one person has an appreciated house to show and all you can say is "I drank and partied for 20 years" that's not something you can sell or show as money.
rtfm : Do you actually add $60K equity into your home? Is making $1000 in mortgage payments always paying down your principle or is some of it going to interest, thus decreasing your actual effective equity accumulation?
Also, what if your house depreciates? Wouldn't you have spent $60K for less than $60K worth of equity, plus you are in debt for the remaining of your mortgage, while the person who "wasted" 10 years of rent is debt free?

Need prayers for my dad...freak hand accident ?
We had been loading our u haul truck (my husband n I bought a home n were moving), cables busted and severed his (my dads) thumb n ring finger. He's home now from the hospital, could not save due to the severity of the cuts. I feel so bad n guilty, bad for him n terrible visions. Kids n all were tramatized...just need prays to help us all heal...thank you....

Homemade gift for a dad to be?
Hello everyone I am in desperate need of creative help! Not only is Valentines day tomorrow, it's my husbands birthday today. We have been house hunting all weekend, we are expecting a little one in July and needed to get out of our tiny apartment and buy a home to start a family in. Anyways we are strapped for money right now and he told me not to get him anything, but I feel like I must do something, I haven't had any time over the weekend to do anything so today I want to do something before he gets home. Also this week we find out the sex of the baby! So it's a big week and I want to do something special. Any homemade gift ideas that aren't completely cheesy? I am making him a cake today, and we are going out to eat with him mom tonight (her treat haha) SO what should I do for him/ make him?
I was thinking maybe something cute that has to do with dad to be homemade gift since we find out the sex this week.. but I don't know.
Helpful suggests welcome!

Also, we already have a million pictures of us in frames. We have a big picture frame with a collage of our wedding pictures, a few pictures when we first started dating in frames, and others. So please suggest something besides pictures/frames collage etc.
