Should location be top priority when purchasing a home?
My husband and I are ready to purchase our first home . Ideally, we would like to buy a house in the town which we currently reside. It's clean, safe, has a great community and good schools. The problem is, while renting has been affordable, purchasing is an entirely different matter. A 2 bed/1 bath home here costs close to 500K. That's really pushing our budget as is and doesn't seem like a practical sized home to start a family in. However, in the next town, for the same amount or less, we could get at least an extra bedroom, bathroom, garage, and big backyard. The area isn't the worst, but isn't the best either. Most friends and family are telling us that location is the most important aspect of home buying. We're inclined to agree, but having a larger space for a good price is awfully tempting.

Mobile home bought for us by Mother in law-tax?
My mother in law is in the process of purchasing a mobile home for us. She's paying for it in full and we are paying her back monthly and paying lot rent as well to the association. We're not sure if we should put it under our name or hers. What will we have to do for taxes if it's under our name? Under hers? Will we have to pay a gift tax? We're not sure what the best way to do this is and we want to do it the correct way. We don't want to end up doing something and have it look suspicious or like we are hiding something. It was just a thoughtful gift from her.

I purchased my home in 2008 and in 2010 payed the mortgage free and clear. I would now like to purchase another home but basically I am living with a couple grand in my bank and can not afford a massive down payment. Are there options to purchase a home for a non first time home buyer?
